Learn the basics of crochet at the Waukee Public Library- Sunday, April 5, 1:30-3:00 p.m. Modern crochet is so much more than just your grandma's tea cozies and afghan collection! From trendy cardigans and home decor pieces to jewelry and adorable stuffed animals- there's a modern crochet project for everyone. Come learn the basics of crochet from the experts at Heartland Fiber Co. You'll learn how to hold your hook and yarn, pattern reading, single crochet and join your chains. With these skills you will be able to crochet a simple cowl! Cost for supplies is $7 per person and includes a crochet hook, simple cowl pattern and yarn for completing your project.

Whether you are new to felting or not - this class is for you! We will begin with the basics of needle felting and move towards creating your own needle felted painting! No drawing experience necessary - there will be samples of pictures you may choose from which include simple floral, landscape or bird & animal prints. All supplies are included. This class includes Homespun Family's Felting Starter Kit (a $30 value), the wool base, a fiber pack sampler (with various colors of alpaca, Jacob Sheep Wool and llama fibers), a 3 pack of felting needles and a foam pad. Making yarn without a spinning wheel: You will use and take home your own wooden drop spindle, and we will provide several kinds of roving. Come with a sense of adventure and a sense of humor; this is a tricky skill and it takes time, but I know you can do it! We will talk about wool, it's various preparations and how to buy it, and learn to spin wool roving into yarn using a drop spindle. March 21, 10-Noon.

Use professional grade synthetic dyes and this fast and fun dyeing technique to create gorgeous one of a kind dyed silk scarves! You choose your own colors and custom create your own dyed silk scarf. March 21, 1:00-2:30 p.m.

This tatting class is a very basic beginning class. If you have always wanted to learn how to tat using shuttles, this will introduce you to the flip required to produce the double stitch. In this hands on class you will learn about proper winding of the shuttle, making the double stitches and then how to form rings and chains. Also, pattern reading wih abbreviations to beginning tatting terms. This class will give the knowledge needed to start your first beginning project, including coaching tips on entering tatting in fairs for judging. With this class you get two shuttles and a spool of thread. 2:00-4:00 p.m.
